In early 2018, I started Hearty Sol to share recipes, DIY projects and our farm family story with the world! I love sewing, working with leather and wood, creating simple hearty recipes, fun projects and keeping up with our menagerie of children, gardens and animals around here.
A happy and warm welcome!
I'm Emily, a 5th generation (or longer - according to ancestry) dairy farmer. I grew up on this farm, the same one my husband and I now raise our four children on near Lewiston, Minnesota.
One of the joys of my childhood was working on the dairy farm with my family, helping with daily milking, feeding the baby cows, bailing hay, doing a laundry list of chores, building character and growing up country.
My husband and I are beyond thankful for the ability to raise our family in the country and on our family owned dairy farm.

"A flower does not think of competing to the FLOWER next to it. It just blooms"
My great grandma Sophie started our family dairy farm in Minnesota in 1924. Somehow this strong woman convinced my grandfather to purchase the dairy farm she had been dreaming of. She was a hard worker and created a lasting legacy for our family. We work side by side with my parents in running the farm and wouldn't have it any other way.
We are passionate about agriculture and believe in continuing on traditions, teaching our children the value of hard work, determination, and stewardship.
“Only he can understand what a farm is, what a country is, who shall have sacrificed part of himself to his farm or country, fought to save it, struggled to make it beautiful. Only then will the love of farm or country fill his heart.”
Antoine De Saint-Exupéry
We believe that it would be a shame to find what we love most about living and only go halfway. A home that busts into color with the personalities you invite into it.
We believe in secret hiding spaces, flowers in the bathroom, beds in the wall and pulley systems for laundry because the everyday stuff should be exciting too.
We believe in a farm that folks are excited and proud to be a part of whether you are an employee, consumer or visitor.
We believe embracing the joy that can sometimes be hard to pick out when things aren’t going well- that’s the good stuff.
We believe that making mistakes are how we learn and we will eventually learn how to fail fast, and then move forward.
We believe in living everyday simply on purpose, with intent and with enough grit to get us through the tough days.
I love to connect and partner with other creatives and businesses that align with our values and lifestyle on my blog and social media channels. Click on the link below to view my media kit and learn more about how we can work together!
