Garlic Butter Topping
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let the dough rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Knots: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope, tie it into a knot, and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Second Rise: Cover the knots with a towel and let them rise for 30 minutes.
Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the knots for 15-18 minutes, or until lightly golden.
Brush on the Garlic Butter Coating: Mix melted butter, minced garlic, and parsley. Brush the hot knots with the garlic butter immediately after baking. Option to sprinkle Parmesan cheese on as well!
1. Can I freeze garlic knots?
Yes! Freeze baked knots in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Reheat in a 350°F oven until warmed through.
2. Can I use instant yeast instead of active dry yeast?
Absolutely! Substitute an equal amount of instant yeast and skip the activation step.
3. What’s the difference between sourdough and classic knots?
Sourdough knots have a tangy flavor and take longer to rise due to the natural fermentation process.
4. Can I make these vegan?
Yes, substitute butter with vegan butter or olive oil and ensure your sugar is vegan-friendly.
5. What dipping sauce goes well with garlic knots?
We really enjoy the taste of these garlic knots just on their own but if you want to satisfy any pizza cravings, break out the marinara sauce!
6. What type of flour should I use?
This is a recipe without bread flour, although you can use bread flour instead. All-purpose flour gives these homemade garlic knots a softer and fluffier texture that we prefer.
