Savory, flavor-packed, and easy to make – it’s the salad everyone wants the recipe for after just one bite!

Some recipes are written down. Others are passed along.
This one came from a Mennonite family in our area. They made it for someone, who brought it to a 500 card party. By the end of the night, the bowl was empty and the recipe was being asked for.
That’s how it made its way here.
It’s the kind of salad that holds its place—simple ingredients, savory flavor, put together in a way that works every time.
Crisp lettuce, bacon, eggs, cheese, and a creamy homemade dressing with just enough tang to balance everything out. Then the corn chips come in at the end and change the texture completely.
It’s the combination that does it. Savory while still feeling light.
Nothing complicated—just well put together.
This salad is just one way to enjoy hard-boiled eggs, my Tasty Smoked Eggs are a favorite on the grill (and learn how I get Farm Eggs to peel)!

Serve immediately – Enjoy!
This is the kind of recipe that moves through a community because it’s dependable.
It shows up, gets noticed, and gets made again somewhere else. After one time through, you’ll understand why.
This is a great salad to take along to share or pack for a field meal. If you’re planning for leftovers, keep the corn chips—and even the dressing—separate until just before serving.
Hearty, simple meals like this make up my two on-the-go recipe ebooks: Cook Once, Serve Twice and Dinners To-Go. You’ll find reliable meals that go over well for summer nights spent sitting on bleachers and leave the whole family feeling full.

There’s something special about recipe testing in the summer. Picking veggies right from the backyard, supporting our friends at the farmers market. Fresh ingredients are in abundance this time of year, ready to brighten your next dish. Salads are built to be customizable so here are some I’ve tried:
What variations of this BLT salad can I try?
I like to use thin-cut bacon – it gets much crispier and is easy to chop up!
To keep this salad as fresh as it can be, I recommend tossing it together no more than a few hours before bringing it as a passing dish!
I will raise my hand and say that summer often feels like the season where we need reliable side dishes on hand the most, even more than the holidays! My favorite in this past year have been my Creamy Ranch Pasta Salad, Bread and Butter Pickle Dip, Peach Crisp, and Strawberry Pretzel Rice Krispies.
I love the homemade dressing given to use with this recipe. A squeeze of lime and a splash of balsamic would also enhance the flavors.
I would recommend iceberg or romaine lettuce – they both give the salad an elevated freshness!

There’s something special about knowing where your recipe came from. This delicious summer salad is passed down from good neighbors and each bite reminds us to savor these precious warm nights spent in good company.
With all the flavors of a BLT sandwich, this salad is low-stress and perfect for summer meal prep or as a passing dish.
Enjoy and continue to pass this recipe on!
