Bedroom Essentials to add to your list!

These past few months have had me in between the workshop and our kids’ bedrooms – it was time to fill their spaces with new projects! Bi-fold closet doors, new shelves, and painting touch-ups are just a few things I’ve been working on these past few months!

I’m always inspired by classic, timeless style – something you can look at years later and still be happy with the style and functionality. This list has some new additions and some products we’ve been using for years – all things we absolutely love in our home!

But first, more home projects

The Bi-fold closet doors in our kids’ room was one of the larger projects I worked on this winter and it only took me about an hour once I gathered all of my tools! For under $50, the circular handles and touch -ups were exactly what they needed to elevate the space!

1. Grounding Sheets

Earthing Harmony is where we started with getting grounding sheets nearly 6 years ago already. We started just putting one on our bed. Then realized the benefits and decided to gift the kids all one for Christmas one year. Although they weren’t as excited about receiving a fitted sheet as we were ;). Then we got one for both our parents’ beds, then told all our siblings, friends and family. My mom no longer gets up in the middle of the night, because she can’t sleep. My early-season garden body, is so grateful to wake up with little to no body pain anymore. It assists with our kids’ asthma, stress and anxiety as they fall asleep, too! Seriously, so many benefits in a simple fitted sheet. Oh and also, these are washable!

2. Red Land Cotton Bedding

We have been using Red Land Cotton’s amazing, All-Cotton Bedding and Quilts for years now! We love supporting farm-to-home business like this one and I can’t say enough great things about their quality! These bedding sets will last us and our kids for a long time and I look forward to getting to cuddle up with their 100% cotton products at the end of each day.

The all-cotton fabric also helps support the work that our grounding sheets do for us, too.

Their classic designs go perfectly with all of the decor in our kids’ rooms! You can use code: HEARTYSOL15 to shop and save!

3. Vintage Light Fixtures

I’ve had these vintage sconces that I saved from an old house sitting in my garage for years! Oh man they were dusty but they cleaned up great and I’ve had the perfect spot in mind for them!

I removed all of the wiring that wasn’t functional anymore and drilled them right into the wall above the kids’ beds. My solution was to use rechargeable lightbulbs – the kids love that these bulbs have timers on them! They can read for 15 minutes and the lights automatically shut off.

I love that these bulbs don’t need batteries and will recharge using the kind of cords we already have and use to charge other devices. It’s brilliant!

4. Five Minute Wallpaper

Wallpaper

You can have this wallpaper up in 5 minutes! By far the fastest installation – just peel and stick these washable patterns right onto your wall with no worries about matching patterns! If you have ever used a drop-match wallpaper pattern, you know you spend more time matching up the patterns and wasting paper, than anything. You’ll appreciate the ease of this wallpaper.

New to the wallpaper game? I put together an all-you-need-to-guide here!

To add to the classic look, I decided to paint the same color all throughout the room. The book shelves, the walls, the closet doors, the shelves and the trim around the closet doors to give the room a classic, custom-built-in look. I do get asked all the time what the color is in this room. I used Pittsburgh Paint – Early Gray MEN7115-4.

5. Bed Tables

I love adding bits and pieces of the barnwood that we removed from our 100 year old barn that was here when we moved to the farm. It’s weathered just perfectly to be soft, cozy and rustic all at the same time.

The kids had wanted some desks in their room for doing homework, having a snack, or reading and also for setting some things on. But with space being an issue, I decided we’d have to get creative. So I designed these little over-the-bed tables that fit snugly to their beds.

They can pull them up to where they are working/ reading and store them back at the end of their bed when they are sleeping. I used 1×10’s (some barn boards and some stained pine) simply fastened with a few L brackets and screws. I added casters at first, but have since removed them as they made them more tippy on the carpet. These little bed tables get used almost everyday!
